Brian's "Picture of the Week"

IMAGE: Contrail Shadow Sun

Exceptionally vivid shadow of a contrail spiking forward of US Airways 2, an Airbus A330 enroute Philadelphia to Rome. Even though the air is very clean at 37,000 feet, it only takes a thin bit of cirrus cloud to have such a dramatic shadow. The sun is a very effective projector against this building-sized jet. Airborne image from 35,000 feet from over the northeast Atlantic Ocean 12:08GMT 25 January 2006. (posted 25 May 2006) [800x600]
